Interview with Ceres Costa Fernandes

Ceres Costa Fernandes was born in Salvador (BA), during a short stay in that city by her parents, both from Maranhão. The family returned to Maranhão when Ceres was three years old. Master in Letters from PUC-RJ, she was a professor at TV Educativa do Maranhão and professor of the Letters Course at the Federal University of Maranhão-UFMA, where she taught the following subjects: English, History of Literature, Theory of Literature and Portuguese Literature. In addition to teaching, she also held management roles. At UFMA, she was Head of the Curricular Internship Division (1978), Dean of Undergraduate Studies (1993-1996) and International Relations Advisor (1997-1998). In the Government of the State of Maranhão, she served as Special Advisor for Education of the Regional Management of São Luís (1998-2003), as Manager of Special Programs of the State Government (2003-2006) and as Director of the Odylo Costa Filho Creativity Center ( 2009-2014). She was a member of the State Council of Culture of the State, (2004-2006). She is currently a member of the University Council (CONSUN) of UFMA.
Ceres is the winner of several medals and honors, such as: Medal of Merit Timbira (2006), awarded by the Government of the State of Maranhão; Laura Rosa Medal (2008), awarded to women educators who excelled in other fields of knowledge; Odorico Mendes Medal (2008), from the Academia Maranhense de Letras; Palmas Universitárias (2009), honorary distinction; Medal of the 4th Centenary of São Luís (2012), from the State Legislative Assembly, for relevant and invaluable services rendered to the city of São Luís, in the 20th century and in the current one; Emeritus Professor at the Federal University of Maranhão (2020).
Chronicler, short-story writer and essayist, author of several works, he is immortal at the Academia Maranhense de Letras, where he holds chair number 39. He is also a member of the Academia Ludovicense de Letras, chair number 34, and the Academia São Bentuense de Artes e Letras , chair number 2.
