Affective memories of Zuzu Nahuz: an approach to spatiality in the work Itapecuru by Zuzu Nahuz

Abstract

This article analyzes some of the memory spaces present in the work O Itapecuru by Zuzu Nahuz, a collection of chronicles organized by Benedito Bogéa Buzar, written by Raimundo Nonato Coelho Nahuz, better known as Zuzu Nahuz, from Maranhão. As a theoretical basis, studies related to topoanalysis – analysis of space in literary works – were used, such as those developed by Gaston Bachelard and its reinterpretation by Borges Filho. Furthermore, we used the contributions of geographer Yi-Fu Tuan on topophilia, a concept that designates a person's affective relationships with the physical environment. Furthermore, Tuzino's studies on chronicle and its relationship with journalism are used, as well as issues related to memory based on Halbwachs, which deals with the characterization of memory, in order to understand the relationship between spaces and memories of the narrator in the literary work. The most recurring themes in the chronicles are related to festivities, school and moments with family or friends during the narrator's childhood and youth in Itapecuru Mirim, a municipality in the state of Maranhão. Some chronicles relating to the main themes present in the chronicle of journalist Zuzu Nahuz were analyzed and interpreted.
